SMS Opt-In Policy

TinnitusTrack

Last updated: July 14, 2026

1. Service Overview

TinnitusTrack ("we", "our", "us") provides SMS text message reminders to help users log their daily tinnitus symptoms. This policy explains how users consent to receive SMS messages and how to opt out at any time.

2. Opt-In Method

Users explicitly opt in to SMS reminders through the following process:

  1. User creates a TinnitusTrack account and logs in.
  2. User navigates to Profile → Daily Reminders and enables the reminder toggle.
  3. User selects "Text Message" or "Both" as their preferred reminder method.
  4. User enters their mobile phone number in the app.
  5. User clicks "Send Code" — a one-time verification code (OTP) is sent via SMS.
  6. User enters the 6-digit code to verify they own the phone number.
  7. Only after successful verification are SMS reminders enabled.

The opt-in timestamp and verified phone number are stored on the user's account record as proof of consent.

3. Message Content & Frequency

Frequency: Up to 1 message per day, sent at the user's chosen reminder time.

Content: A brief reminder to log tinnitus symptoms, including a link to the logging page. Example:

"TinnitusTrack: Time to log your tinnitus for 2026-07-14. https://tinnitustracker.app/log/new Reply STOP to opt out, HELP for help"

Verification messages: A one-time OTP code is sent during phone number verification. This occurs only when the user explicitly requests it.

4. Opt-Out Methods

Users can opt out of SMS messages at any time using any of these methods:

  • Reply STOP to any SMS message — immediately unsubscribes the phone number (handled automatically by the carrier/Twilio).
  • In-app toggle: Go to Profile → Daily Reminders → toggle off. The opt-out timestamp is recorded on the user's account.
  • Change reminder method: Switch to "Email" only in Profile settings.
  • Account deletion: Deleting the account permanently removes the phone number and all associated data.

The opt-out timestamp is stored on the user's account record as proof of withdrawal of consent.

5. HELP & Support

Users can reply HELP to any SMS message for assistance, or use the in-app Support button to contact us directly.

6. Data Privacy

Phone numbers are stored in encrypted form and are used solely for sending tinnitus logging reminders and verification codes. Phone numbers are never shared with third parties or used for marketing. Users can delete their phone number and all associated data at any time via account deletion in Profile settings.

7. Carrier Disclaimer

Standard message and data rates may apply. TinnitusTrack is not responsible for any carrier charges incurred from receiving SMS messages.
